Blast from the Past #119: "Nano" designs

In the first season of the 4Kids TMNT tv show, we introduced what would become a recurring character -- "Nano", the sentient cloud of nanoscale robots. Jim Lawson helped us out with these cool designs for the three basic stages of Nano's development in his first appearance on the show.

And below are the final show-ready designs, adapted by the artists at 4Kids from Jim's drawings.-- PL

  1. -->> ..damm..

    Unique among other TMNT villains ( well later he is redeemed as he ' Grows up ' ) ..only really wanting to belong, find meaning, and family.. eventually finding his place in the world amidst the Justice Force.

    His childish hive-mind & demeanor was something rarely explored in TMNT mythos ..and was greatly appreciated, relatable.

    Possibly among my favourite of Jim's designs.

    Summin' really beautiful about the character.

  2. I agree with what Tokka said there, and oddly enough I like Jim's designs more so even than the final product done by the artists @ 4kids, especially the last stage done by Lawson.
    I hope was get to see more great designs like this.

  4. Number 3, Jim Art, reminds me of some other character in the face/neck region and for the life of me, I just can't place it.

    I want to say it resembles a Real Ghostbusters Villain, but I don't think that's it.

  6. I loved this character. I'm of the opinion that a villian (well he was at first) is better when there is something about them that on some level is redeamble, or at least understandable.

  7. Simply amazing. I only wish they would have made action figures out of more of his forms.
